So last wednesday (10 days ago) Owen had his first at home episode. KC was putting him in bed and he apparently didnt want to go to sleep so he started throwing a fit. My mom and Jeffrey were still here and we even had Alyssa and Tyler here also. We heard KC's yelling for us from the back and went back there in time to see Owen pass out. It was scary but we knew what to do this time so no one cried or anything, we stayed calm and handled the situation. We did call the DR just to ask some more questions like, "how long until he's supposed to come around again", and "do we need to make sure he cries after".
We found out we dont need to make him cry because we dont want to induce another episode, but we do need to make sure that he comes around enough to be coherent and fully conscious before we let him sleep. These episodes make him so tired that he just wants to sleep after. So These episodes end up lasting about 10-15 min from the time he starts crying to the time he's fully consious again. Not fun, but we know what to expect this time.
And he hasn't had another epidose since then!!! yay! We're trying very hard to regulate his moods, make sure he's not tired, teething, hungry, anything like that so that he's less likely to throw a tantrum and so far it seems to be working. He's started the fits but seems to pull out of them before he passes out. I dont think he really likes to pass out.
On Tuesday we took him to the hospital for this EEG test (testing his brain waves) and because he is so young they had to sedate him so that he didnt move during the test. What was nice is that it was around his nap time so we were able to get him sleepy and then the started the sedation so it wasnt a traumatic experience for him to be put under. But it was a traumatic experiecne for the nurses to weigh him and get the IV in. We nearly had an episode then. I mean, he hadnt eaten and was ready for a nap, thats like asking for an episode :)
So once they put him under the EEG tech came and started the process. First she measured his head and made lots of markings with a red crayon type marker all over his head

Then she put the cords on

I was able to stand right next to him until the test started. I had music playing for him and held his hand the whole time she prepped him which took about 45 min. Then I had to turn the music off and couldn't hold his had anymore and we just had to sit and wait.
The test doesn't make any noise, they just send signals through the wires into his brain and get results back. And once she was done with the test They stopped the sedation and Owen woke up just fine from it. He was sleepy and came home and napped right away but after that he was normal as if nothing had happened.
So I have totally loved being home with Owen. We play all day long and just have lots of fun. He really is a goofy kiddo. He loves to make silly faces and totally knows that he's funny. He'll say something in baby language and then laugh at it as if it was a funny joke. I am lovng being with him.
Thank you all for your thought and concerns for Owen. It looks like he'll be ok. Our biggest battle now is how to raise him with out inducing an epidose and with out spoiling him... its a fun challenge. Well, we love you all!! Have a gret weekend!

we love you guys so much- I'm so glad to hear everything is going well with Owen's health. Love you!!
Brookie! I'm glad things are going well with Owen. It was hard just to look at pictures of everything all over his head...I'm sure it was even harder in person. We miss playing with him! Are you not working anymore?
What a cutie. Was it hard to get all that red marker off of his cute little face?
So great to hear Owen is doing better. You are one tough mama!
actually it wasn't hard to get off. They mix the red stuff with a jelly mix so it was very greasy but came off easily. The hardest to get off was the stuff they use to keep the wires in place. It was a waxy paste that didn't want to come out of his hair
